Meredith Shears joined Cotton & Company in January 2005 and was elected a partner with the firm in January 2014. Since joining the firm, she has managed financial statement audits, performance audits, and large, multifaceted consulting engagements. She has extensive experience providing a wide range of financial consulting and accounting support services and has advised and assisted clients on complex accounting and financial reporting issues, audit remediation efforts, internal controls, new financial management processes, and audit concerns.
Meredith received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from James Madison University, an Accounting Certificate from the University of Virginia, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Marymount University. She is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Virginia.
Meredith is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Association of Government Accountants (AGA), the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA), and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). She is a member of the AGA’s Corporate Partner Accounting and Auditing Committee.
Meredith resides in Northern Virginia. She and her husband, Tim, have two sons, and in her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.
