Gary Barton joined Cotton & Company in February 2010 and was elected a partner with the firm in October 2014. Gary has more than 12 years of diversified Information Technology (IT) audit and consulting experience. Gary’s experience includes directing and participating in audits and assessments of general IT environments supporting financial reporting for public companies, non-profits and the federal government; Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) audits; process improvement and reengineering projects; pre-implementation assessments; enterprise architecture audits; Office of Management and Budget (OMB) A-123 projects; and audit remediation consulting.
Gary received his Master of Business Administration degree from The George Washington University, and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the College of William and Mary. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), and Certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
He is also a member of numerous professional organizations, including the following:
- Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) (National Capital Area Chapter)
- International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc. (ISC2) (National Capitol Chapter)
- Project Management Institute (PMI) (Washington D.C. Chapter)
Originally from New York City, Gary has called Northern Virginia home since graduating from William & Mary. Active in the local community, he is an Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Board Member and a Steering Committee Member for the Mount Vernon Underground. He and his wife, Jeanne, have three sons. He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and playing golf.
